Biography
Laura O´Neill Ott spent over ten years on Capitol Hill working in both the Legislative and Executive Branches of Government focusing on a wide range of policy issues. Her tenure on Capitol Hill included working for Senators on the U.S. Senate Health Education Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, and the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. As a senior staff member, she worked closely with Members, staff and industry to develop government requirements and policies affecting the U.S. defense, homeland security and the healthcare industries. She worked extensively on budget, policy and oversight matters related to the procurement and/or development of critical defense and healthcare technologies, including chemical and biological detection technology, vaccine development and technologies for first responders. She worked closely with the relevant sub-agencies, including the U.S. Defense Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA), the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTTRA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Following her work in the Senate, Ms. O´Neill Ott was appointed by the White House as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She served in this capacity for almost four years while working closely with the Secretary of HHS, the White House, and on joint inter-agency matters with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Domestic Policy Council (DPC), and members and staff from both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. In her position as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for HHS, she played an important and influential role in developing national policies and budgets involving U.S. government technology procurement and development.
Today, Ms. O´Neill Ott maintains strong relationships both in the Legislative and Executive Branches of the U.S. Government including agency personnel involved in developing and implementing national defense, security and healthcare policy. Ms. O´Neill Ott represents clients before Congress and the Executive Branch agencies on a wide range of legislative and regulatory matters. In addition to representing clients before the U.S. government, she also works closely with clients to develop highly effective business strategies as they navigate complex and changing business environments.
